Gafanha Sports Group will have a “new” training ground

The Ílhavo Council, the Gafanha Sports Group and the Gafanha da Nazaré Parish Council will sign a collaboration agreement today at 8 am for the installation of a new synthetic turf on football pitch no. 3 of the Gafanha da Nazaré Sports Complex. The local authority will open a procedure for the installation of synthetic turf covering approximately 8,000 square metres, for a base price of 196,000 euros, plus VAT, with a completion period of 90 days. It will be applied on the existing bare field, to reinforce football sports training, providing it with better conditions for athletes. The new training field, which already has goals and an irrigation system installed, will have markings for 7, 9 and 11-a-side football. With this intervention, the sports complex will be able to host training camps for teams from outside the municipality, strengthening the municipality's external projection. “Improving the conditions of sports infrastructures contributes to user safety, reducing maintenance costs and optimizing the use of existing resources,” the chamber highlighted in an information note. Grupo Desportivo da Gafanha is the sports club with the largest number of athletes in the municipality - there are, in total, around 400, divided between football, futsal and basketball.

The support of the municipality of Ílhavo for improving infrastructure has “been constant in recent years”, with interventions carried out in the different spaces used by the club.
